Avene cleanser and toner review

Between the freezing cold, windy weather and drying central heating, my skin is not happy. So I’ve got back to using Avene cleanser and toner again, they are so gentle on the skin and the Thermal Spring Water is extremely soothing. I previously mentioned them in my Top Ten Products for Really Sensitive Skin post but wanted to go into a little more detail.

Gentle Milk Cleanser – This is an extremely gentle, creamy cleanser. Velvety texture that just melts into your skin. Removes make up and skin impurities in one. It’s so rich it’s almost like cleansing with a moisturiser so it’s ideal for anyone with very dry skin. It’s so gentle you don’t even need to wash this off. Just apply with a cotton wool pad to the face and neck. This is then followed by the toner.

Cleanance Mat Mattifying Toner – There is a gentle toner to accompany the cleanser, but as the cleanser is so rich, I wanted a more purifying toner. This is from the Cleanance range for oily skin and reduces excess sebum, which likewise has an accompany cleanser. Just apply with a cotton pad after the cleanser and it leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean afterwards. It still contains the Avène Thermal Spring Water so is soothing on the skin.

Avène Thermal Spring Water is naturally soothing and anti-irritating. It spends years filtering through the rocks of the Cevennes Mountains before surfacing at the Sainte-Odile spring. It’s rich in components, like silica, that are recommended for sensitive skin, so it’s included in all Avene products.

I’m a huge fan of the brand and have used a lot of their products over the years. At the moment I also use the Hydrance Optimal Rich or Tolerance Extreme Lotion face moisturisers after I’ve been swimming, which are really effective at reducing redness and irritation from the chlorine.

If you do have very sensitive skin, I would really recommend the Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray. Very soothing on irritated skin.
