Parisian Chic Essential Reading List

  • Love x Style x Life – Garance Dore – Photographer, illustrator and author, Garance Dore, takes us on the journey of how she started out to become the blogger extraordinaire she is today. Part memoir, part style and part advice, she takes us on her style journey from Paris to New York, covering beauty, work and love.
  • Bright Lights Paris: Shop, Dine & Live..Parisian Style – Angie Niles – This guide takes a look at each of the Parisian districts, the stereotypical women you might spot in each area from Trocadero to Canal Saint Martin, and how to achieve their style. Some areas are obviously rather more expensive than others! But it provides great tips on where to eat, shop and hang out like a Parisian. Perfect for planning your next trip to Paris. It’s also beautifully illustrated, so a great coffee table book.
  • How to be Parisian: Wherever you are – Caroline de Maigret – Love this slightly tongue in cheek look at ‘How to be Parisian‘. But I genuinely like the “virtue of the signature item”, something that pulls an outfit together or makes you feel strong, “a gift a woman gives herself”. I like the idea of having that item that says I bought this for myself, I’m independent and I don’t need someone else to buy me the things I want.  Caroline de Maigret, is perfectly positioned to give advice on the French Chic style, she effortlessly combines masculine tailoring and a laid back tom boy style with feminine lace blouses or edgy leather skirts. By layering block textures with bright colours, or wardrobe staples and the odd statement item of clothing, she creates a simple sexy style. More on that and how to achieve her effortless style in my Monday Muse blog.
  • Parisian Chic: A Style Guide by Ines de la Fressange – This is much more of a style guide than the other three. Ines breaks down the DNA of Parisian style, what the wardrobe essentials are and how to put them together. Covering everything from beauty to accessories. The illustrated, annotated guide offers advice on how to dress for different events and live like a true Parisian.

I’m always looking for new books to read so let me know your recommendations and what your top style guides are!
